Silhouette Self Portrait

The project we just finished is called the Silhouette self portrait. We were told that we were going to be using a new program called the illustrator. This program was very different from the programs we used in our previous projects. There were a lot of new tools we had to learn about for this project. The first thing we did for this project was learning and testing out the new program. When we thought we got the hang of it we then had to go out in the hall and take a picture of our silhouettes. We then put them on our computers and had to trace them with the pen tool. When we had our silhouettes traced we could then design it and out in the required elements for the project. We had to personalize it by putting in lyrics to a song or quotes that represents us in some way. We could also personalize it with designs like stars, hearts, and other shapes.

For my silhouette self portrait I took a side picture of my body with my hands on my back. When I cropped my images the first position I put them in was a back to back pose. One image was a filled in silhouette while the other was transparent. I decided to make the background of my first picture purple because that’s my favorite color. I used the text “life’s what you make it”. For my second silhouette I zoomed into my upper body more and took away one of my silhouettes from the first one. I then made a think bubble and put things I think about in it because I’m usually lost in my thought most of the time. I also put “”the past is the past, the present is a gift, and the future a mystery”.

At first when thinking of ways to put my silhouette I had a hard time coming up with ideas. Then once I figured it out it my picture came out nice. It was also hard to find words to add to my picture. The font was easy to find I think my font fits well with my quotes. For my background I tried to choose colors that would make everything else stand out.

I think I did an ok job for this project. I did a great job cutting out my silhouette. You could see all my facial features. But as a whole I think my pictures were very mediocre. I didn’t really like this project. I didn’t like the new program and the pen tool was hard to adjust too. Designing a picture like this was more difficult than I thought it would be.

Public Service Annoucement

For our sixth project we were told that we were going to be making Public Service Announcements. We could choose a topic of our choice and our PSA's had to be 30-60 seconds. In class Mrs Wiegand showed us examples of different PSA's that were used in commercials. She also have us a website to go to so we can get some idea's for the PSA's in case we were lost. After we figured out what out PSA was going to be about we had to get a song and begin creating our PSA's.

I chose to do my PSA about homeless people/youth in America. In my PSA I include statistics about how many people are homeless on any given night, the ages of these homeless people, and a leading cause of homelessness. In my PSA I used a lot of pictures of homeless children and homeless people looking frustrated. I also wanted whoever was watching to feel what I was saying so I chose to put Avril Lavignes "I'm With You". It fit well with the topic.

My topic of homelessness is a very important topic to have a PSA about. I do not think that people realize how many families/youth are homeless from things like the recession or abusive environments or foster care didn't work out for them. I think that if we live in a country like America nobody should be homeless. Everyone should have more options so we won;t have homeless families/youth.

I believe I did well on this project. My point was well put across. One thing I learned while doing this project is the more time, effort, and research you put into something the better it's going to come out. I know that if I slacked off and didn't put as much effort into this project I wouldn't have done a good PSA. I also learned that PSA's are more impactive then i previously thought. It takes a lot of thought and effort to make a PSA and it sends out a message to get you thinking.

Digital Story

This Project was called digital stories. We were told to get a story, an event, an object, a place, or a person who impacted you in some way. After you choose a story you had to get pictures that matched your story. Then you had to record your voice and ass music or whatever kind of effects you wanted. Your video had to be about 1 minute long. When we were finished with our videos we then had to post them on our blogs to get a grade.

My digital Story was about my last trip with my Uncle John. I talked about what we did in Disney World and why it was one of the best trips of my life. I chose a lot of images of me and my cousin on rides or with characters from Disney. I also used pictures of the different attractions and statues. I also added the beat to the song, "I got a Feeling" by the black eyed peas.

I chose this story because my Uncle was a big part of my life. He did a lot for me and that trip means a lot to me. Another reason why I chose it is because I knew I had a lot of pictures for it. This is a trip I'll treasure for the rest of my life. I wanted to show everyone how much it meant to me.

I think I did a good job with my project. I liked this project the most out of all the projects so far. It was different from the other projects and I had more fun with it. I liked digital media this year. I learned many new and interesting things. I hope I can use the things I learned in the future.
